It’s the Perfect Time for a Boating Safety Course – Last week we gave you some tips on how to properly prepare for spring boating. While the weather may be great for our boaters in temperate climates, many northern boaters are stuck inside hoping for an early thaw.
While you wait, it’s a great time to touch up your knowledge by taking a boating safety course. Or, if you’re already an expert, have your kids and friends take one. Expanding and improving boating safety knowledge is an important part of sustaining a healthy boating community.
The Spring Aboard Campaign is a national effort sponsored by the U.S. Coast Guard and national boating groups to help promote boating safety across the country. During the March 18-24 campaign, many instructors are offering deals on boating classes in an effort to maximize safety knowledge before the season gets underway.
It may be a no-brainer, but taking a boating safety course—from basic to advanced—drastically improves both your own safety and the safety of everyone on the water. The U.S. Coast Guard reports that 80% of boating deaths occur on a boat where the driver had never taken a boating education or safety course.
